FRENCH VANILLA
FRENCH VANILLA
French Vanilla is a feminist art-punk band based in Los Angeles consisting of Max Albeck (drums), Ali Day (guitar/bass), Sally Spitz (vocals), and Daniel Trautfield (bass/sax). They regulate the dance floor with socially sensitive lyrics, vocal freneticism, punchy basslines, and catchy sax. Half-driven by a desire to challenge the established SoCal music scene, dominated by a few influential (male) tastemakers, and half by a desire to hang out with friends, FV started in LA's queer punk underground and it is in these spaces that they feel the most at home. The band's ideology assumes the generative nature of women's and/or BFF's collaboration, and they hope to spread this message until all dude-rock bands cease to exist. More than anything, FV wants you to have fun at their shows and they deliver performances filled with infectious energy and enthusiasm.
The Vivids
The Vivids
The Vivids are an LA post-punk band consisting of Sim Jackson (vocals), Ryan Bergmann (guitar), Yousef Qadeer (bass), and Gustov Mentzer (drums). After many years of sharing stages with bands like Disappears, Tropic of Cancer, Tijuana Panthers, Sex Stains, Egrets on Ergots, Dub Thompson, Drinking Flowers, Feels and the Molochs They’ve recorded first full-length album - “999&13,” a moody and raw exploration of self-destruction and self-renewal shot through with messy, bright guitars, sharply observant lyrics, and propulsive drumming that’s anything but lo-fi. Completely lacking in guile, the Vivids create an entire punk world of their own in the vein of Tom Verlaine, Joe Strummer, Richard Hell and Mark E. Smith—and no trend-hopping here. They’ve always been like this.

The songs on “999&13” take their cues from poetry, but their lyrics are rooted firmly in the post-modern. Kin to but not akin to the bands with whom they’ve shared the stage, the Vivids’ vision of Los Angeles are shades dark and brutally real: a city where Skid Row sits on top of galleries and movie sets and a woman’s march can take place next to a woman’s shelter without nary a peep from the marchers. These contradictions form the heart of the record, a perspective that can only be offered by this band. Produced by Dante White Aliano (Starlight Desperation, Dante Vs. Zombies) and Sim Jackson, “999&13” is the Vivids’ unique vision writ large, a record that not only demands to be listened to but to be heard. ---- Mariana Timony (Bandcamp)

The Vivids' mix of garage, surf psychedelia, and post-punk immediately registers under that elusive term of "quality". Each of the three tracks possesses a certain dry, vintage character, tapped into the high tradition of drugged-out road music. (via Don't Die Wondering) --- ALTERED ZONES.COM
Sister Mantos
Sister Mantos
When Sister Mantos takes the stage, their psychedelic blend of LATIN BEATS, PUNK ATTITUDE, and FUNK RHYTHMS invigorate the crowd to dance, sing and rejoice.

Sister Mantos sings songs in Spanish and English about love, QUEER & POC empowerment, and utopias that are free of war and oppression.

Sister Mantos is a solo performance band or a huge orchestra depending on the time and place but a guaranteed party either way.

Audiences are sent on a spaced out psychedelic road trip and treated to mystical experience of spastic dancing, bumping beats, and POSITIVE ENERGY.

Originally started as an alias for a solo music/art performance project by Oscar Miguel Santos in 2008, Sister Mantos has transformed into a live band multi-instrumental band that traverses sonic genres.
