T.S.O.L.
US-American punk band formed in 1979 in Huntington Beach, California. The original lineup consisted of Jack Grisham (vocals), Ron Emory (guitar), Mike Roche (bass), and Todd Barnes (drums). Starting out as a politically-tinged hardcore punk band, the group moved towards horror themes and are considered by some as an influence on the early deathrock scene. The original lineup stayed together through 1983, recording 2 EPs and 2 LPs. Barnes and Grisham departed in '83 and were replaced by Mitch Dean and Joe Wood who was Grisham's brother-in-law, at the time. The Wood and Dean line up continued to record and release music throughout the 80s, shifting towards hard rock. Emory and Roche eventually dropped out, leaving the band with no original members. The original lineup reunited for some live gigs in 1991 but were unable to use the T.S.O.L. name since it was now controlled by Wood and Dean. Wood continued to tour under the T.S.O.L. banner throughout the 1990s, mostly in South America. In 1999 Emory, Grisham, and Roche regained control of the band name, and have continued to tour and occasionally record ever since. Barnes died from a brain aneurysm in 1999 after years of addiction issues.

In their sixteen years of existence, the Voodoo Glow Skulls have an impressive list of achievements. Seven albums, one million records sold, appearances in exotic locations like Brazil and Japan as well as the creation of a record store, record label, recording studio and a music venue attests to the remarkable creativity and energy of the band. Formed in 1988, Voodoo Glow Skulls meshed hardcore punk, traditional ska, tough guitar riffs and the Mexican music of their roots to create the prototype for the West Coast ska-core sound, influencing a wide range of bands from Sublime to No Doubt. Unflinchingly honest, their songs often used humor to comment on harsh political realities – from racial inequity to unrest overseas. Singing in both Spanish and English, Voodoo Glow Skulls' bilingual musical tradition has been a hallmark of the band since they began.

Titled Adicción, Tradición, y Revolución, the new album is self produced and recorded (in their Dog Run Studios), and contains some of their most rocking, candid music ever. "Adicción refers to our feelings about music, we have hardcore fans who consider our music to be both unique and addicting," Frank explains. "Tradición signifies the fact that we've been together as a musical family for this long, and have not really changed. Also, we have always tried to include our Latin roots in our music, either by writing songs in Spanish or incorporating musical ideas that we grew up with. Latinos have a very strong sense of tradition, and we are very aware of it. Finally, Revolución because we have always tried to steer clear of trends – we are somewhat of a musical revolution in that our music is unique, even hard to copy."

The core of the band since the beginning has been the three Casillas brothers, Frank, Eddie and Jorge, joined by drummer Jerry O'Neill and Brodie Johnson on trombone. The current line-up boasts a three horn section for the first time in six years. The lyrics are a collaboration between, "Eddie, a notepad and a pen, and myself," Frank jokes, and they run the gamut, from the hilarious send up of Jerry's girlfriend on "Dee Dee Don't Like Ska" to the political commentary in "We Represent". "Touring in some of the out-of-the-way places we have been, in some cases we are the first Americans they have dealt with directly. The negative feedback on the U.S. government is pretty universal, and disturbing." said Frank. "Smile Now, Cry Later" is their take on a rock steady song, with a killer groove. "Ghetto Blaster" indicts the corporate music industry and the force feeding of the masses. Every Voodoo Glow Skulls album contains one cover – their latest is a traditional ska version of the Guns N' Roses classic "Used To Love Her"!

With a list of accomplishments that might make some bands ready to slow their pace, the band shows no signs of slowing down. A full West Coast tour will be followed by a trip to Brazil to headlining the Punk Rock Show festival on Halloween, and another U.S. tour immediately follows. Voodoo Glow Skulls legendary live shows are full of searing horns, grinding guitars and throaty growls – and no one plays super tight ska faster than these veterans. Adicción, Tradición, y Revolución rocks harder than ever – Voodoo Glow Skulls dubbed their sound "California street music" – a perfect description of their high octane mix of rock, punk, ska and hardcore.

Guttermouth is an American punk rock band formed in 1988 in Huntington Beach, California and currently recording for Volcom Entertainment. They have released nine full-length studio albums and two live albums and have toured extensively, including performances on the Vans Warped Tour. They are infamous for their outrageous lyrics and behavior which are deliberately explicit, offensive and intended to shock, though usually in a humorous and sarcastic manner. This behavior has sometimes resulted in high-profile problems for the band, such as being banned from performing in Canada for a year and leaving the 2004 Warped Tour amidst controversy over their political views and attitudes towards other performers.

In 2005 drummer Ty Smith left Guttermouth to focus on his new band Bullets and Octane and was replaced by Ryan Farrell. Bass player Kevin Clark departed the following year and founding member Clint Weinrich returned to the group. This lineup recorded the band's tenth album Shave the Planet, released in 2006 by Volcom Entertainment. The album found the band once again using their brand of humorous punk rock to poke fun at a number of subjects. Guttermouth continues to tour and perform in support of the album.

Naked Aggression was formed in Madison, WI by Guitarist/Song Writer Phil Suchomel and Singer Kirsten Patches in early 1991, during the Gulf War. They where both classical music students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, who were discontent with the confines of a conservative music department, So, they started jamming together in the dingy basement of their house in the student ghetto. They had an array of people play bass and drums with them. About a year later they left Madison and moved out to California and spent nine months up in the East Bay/ San Francisco area. For the past three years they've based themselves in L.A. Recently Joe Garcia joined them on Bass and Aaron Austin joined them on Drums.

With their new 6 song EP Reboot, the always exceptional Latina quartet Go Betty Go emphatically re-establish themselves as one of punk rock’s most exciting forces. A gloriously rough and tumble recording bristling with the band’s characteristic elegant, melodic aggression, it’s potent showcase for Betty Cisneros’ big, roaring guitar, singer Nicolette Vilar’s soulful, siren call and the momentous urgency of Michelle Rangel’s bass and Aixa Vilar’s tumultuous drumming.

It has all the classic Go Betty Go impact, but songs like “Cemetery Stone” and “It Haunts You Now” are drawn from a deeper, far more shadowy territory. They have created an even richer and more engaging sound, loaded with lush atmosphere and, at times, an underlying sense of the foreboding, yet still ably uphold the banging, high impact GBG sound. A deliciously kicking en Español cover of Elastica’s “Stutter” maintains their signature bilingual approach, and every song on this disc rings with the band’s consistently passionate authority.

“We wanted it to be raw and rockin’, not sound too produced and with a darker edge.” Aixa said. “We’ve always been intrigued with darker things, what people are capable of. It’s a curiosity all of us share.”

The new material’s more penetrating emotional statements reflect their singularly unusual shared history. Formed in 2000 when they were all attending high school in Glendale California, Go Betty Go swiftly ascended from local shows to a standing room only weeknight residency at Los Angeles dive Mr. T Bowl’s to a national reputation via reams of critical acclaim and non-stop gigging. Go Betty Go surged through two lengthy Warped tours, frequent appearances in Mexico, an attention getting invasion of South by Southwest and seemingly had it made. With the release of 2005’s Nothing is More, their first full length album, set out a coast to coast tour with MxPx. They never finished it—Nicolette, exhausted, unhappy and burned out, suddenly quit. She walked away and the group completely fell apart.

Aixa and Betty drafted singer Emily Wynne-Hughes and bassist Phil Buckman and continued gigging but the creative momentum was gone, and at one point they quit performing for over two years. Miraculously, after a friend suggested a one off 2012 gig all four original members found themselves reunited on stage. As if the band had a life of its own, Go Betty Go was back as suddenly as they had split.

“I was not anticipating what I felt that night,” Nicolette said, “because it went from being really fun to not fun at all, but I knew if we didn’t do it then, it’d never happen again. And when I got onstage, I felt so happy, like I’d found a lost friend that I really missed. It’s bigger than me, and I can’t wait to get started again. I’m really excited.”

That renewal and excitement crackles through Reboot like a high voltage jolt of electricity, and Go Betty go are poised to reclaim their rightful prominence as some of the brightest, boldest women in punk rock. “I never thought we would ever do another record.” Aixa said. “When we came back together to start writing, it felt really good, so we’re just going to go out, play it, take it from there and see what happens. Life is full of the unexpected.”

Have you ever heard the inarguable sound of what materializes when you let fate direct the future? What if that sound was influenced by twenty years of British and American punk cultures colliding? For the members of Sharp Shock, growing up with the bands that defined music with an honesty and passion that can be rarely found in modern times, cleared a very obvious path for what they wanted to do with their own lives. Sometimes in music, the storybook tale of determination, sacrifice and despair can be thrown around hastily. To some, those three things describe a reality that very few can truly understand, and for the members of Sharp Shock, they are only a few attributes that make up their unique story.

Having all played in bands from a young age, the work ethic it takes to move your life around the world just isn’t something that most people possess. Playing in garages to arenas and back again, sleeping on floors and in vans for the better part of the last fifteen years, they found their way to Southern California and were pushed only by that dream so many end up letting slip away.

Singer/Guitarist Davey Warsop (Beat Union, Suedehead) and bass player/vocals Dan Smith (The Dear & Departed) are UK exports. Smith by way of New Zealand and also widely known for his achievement in the tattoo world, they both moved to California in the early 2000’s without knowing each other. Korey Kingston (The Aggrolites/Suedehead), a San Diegan drummer raised on a healthy diet of Reggae, Ska and a West Coast view on that same upbringing, would end up completing this trio perfectly. Despite their different geographical beginnings, they quickly realized they were all very much from the same place. “The timing couldn’t have been better” says Smith. “As the story goes, both myself and Korey reached out to Davey by way of text message, coincidentally within a minute of each other, suggesting we start something. We hadn't even met, so i think Davey saw that as some kind of synchronicity, perhaps too much of a coincidence for him to ignore. Then before we knew it, we were already in the studio recording”.

It was only a matter of time before the hiatus they were all experiencing and this coincidence would essentially bring them together. Musically, it is exactly what you might expect kids schooled early on The Jam and Stiff Little Fingers would sound like. Then, submerse that in the sun drenched beach cities of Southern Californian surf,skate and punk culture and the sounds of The Descendents or early Green Day and you will find Sharp Shock. The way the band formed can only be described as organic and after some time away from playing and being rather disheartened with the machine of the music industry and not knowing where they fit in, they all agreed to take much more of a DIY approach this time. Warsop, having produced and engineered countless records over the years at Hurley studios shortly after moving to the US, was a key piece in the productivity of self producing the debut album. “We tracked the majority of this record live, to keep the performances honest and fun. Like our name suggests, we’re trying to keep everything about this band direct and to the point. From the songwriting being short and snappy, to us being a trio…we don’t want to overcomplicate anything.” says Warsop. Sharp Shock had their first record under their belt within a very short amount of time and it would be no surprise if a second wasn’t too far away. “This feels like it did when i was covering my favorite bands in my garage as a kid. We are doing only what we know…and doing it from the heart” say Smith.
